What is truly important in life?
We are all born the same way. We are raised by people and adopt the mentality and language they teach us. We grow up in a system that judges us before we even know who we are. Figuring that out can often take a lifetime.
Here, I painted with my hands, adding details with oil pastels and acrylic markers. I primarily use acrylics because they give me the freedom to react spontaneously to my emotions. I was both gentle and rough with the canvas to capture emotions like fear, hatred, and worry, but also love, hope, and confidence. One of the background figures is shedding drops that become a lake. Words shape and drown. The first words we hear when we follow our nature form us. Are they encouraging or oppressive? I usually paint the central figure with an intense gaze. Here, it's different. The child in the center has closed eyes. It is at peace within itself. The stares can't harm him because he knows who he is. The inner child is a story about confronting your shadow side and discovering who you truly are. The longest journey leads inward. To ourselves. What has happened remains. But you can be there for yourself and begin to live again, instead of merely surviving. Every moment becomes like a soap bubble: fleeting, beautiful, and unique.
