Duality

This work has long wrestled with me. My first attempt to convey its message was marked by inner resistance and uncertainty. With this new version, I succeed in giving the image a voice. One that doesn't explain, but asks questions. What does duality mean in our lives? And how much does it influence our reality? Duality describes the existence of two opposing or complementary aspects within a unity, such as good and evil, body and soul, light and shadow, yin and yang. In this work, humankind forms this unity. We carry within us the capacity to create and to destroy—ourselves and others. Often, this happens through thoughts and words. Language is key. I once heard that a country's language is its soul. Take away the language, take away the soul. Words are powerful because they shape our perception, our world. The Himba tribe in Namibia has several words for the color green. We only have one. How different must their world be? My native language, Urdu, also has its peculiarities: the same word – Kal – is used for both "tomorrow" and "yesterday." This linguistic equivalence has shaped my view of time. For me, tomorrow and yesterday aren't as important as today. And I'm glad about that. This perspective allows me to dwell less on the past, worry less about the future, and instead have more space for what is happening right now.
