„We simply live on a blue sphere in endless space.

Light is given to us by a star that we orbit and call the sun. At night, million of these suns twinkle in the sky and we call them stars.

Planets invisible to us orbit around these stars. Planets, just like our earth."

Short biography

I am Asma (born 1994) and I work as a freelance artist in Stuttgart. I grew up in Munich as the child of Pakistani immigrants. Caught between poverty and religious conflict, driven by the pressure to grow up quickly and become independent, I let my art die. I became an environmental engineer, a job I loved. Nature has always been close to my heart. Over time, I realized: We are not as powerless as we think. One of the greatest freedoms is how we react to the world around us. At 28, I bought my first canvas and easel. It began a journey back to myself and beyond. I explore the journey of life. My art is influenced by manga [1] , which taught me since childhood: Pain is part of life, but you can endure it, integrate your shadows, and create your own miracles instead of waiting for salvation.

[1] Manga are Japanese comics characterized by a special drawing style: striking eyes, strong facial expressions

Statement

Every time I look up at the sky, I usually think the same thing: "We simply live on a blue sphere in endless space. Light is given to us by a star that we orbit and call the sun. At night, millions of these suns twinkle in the sky, and we call them stars. Orbiting these stars are planets invisible to us. Planets, just like our Earth."

I paint to understand the world. When I paint, I never abandon a picture. Every stroke is a decision. I can't turn back time. What's done is done. I can be broken by a situation, run away from it, or make the best of it. That's how it is in my painting process. Works emerge that wouldn't be possible without frustration, pain, and courage. When I begin a piece, I have a vision, but the final expression remains open because the painting lives with me. I find my inspiration in nature, in my everyday life, and in the dead ends of my life. Inspired by manga drawing styles, I develop visual worlds full of movement and intense emotions. I choose a theme that occupies me at a particular stage of my life and explore it while painting. Through self-talk while drawing and painting, as well as with the help of specialist literature and research on the respective topic, I gain new insights. My works are characterized by expressive use of color and a spontaneous painting style. I work intuitively and primarily use acrylic paint because it gives me the freedom to react spontaneously to my emotions.

With my art, I embark on a journey of being. I am fascinated by human consciousness, especially the fine line between dream and reality. My works are a mirror of my soul; they develop and change with me. Come with me and my characters on an odyssey and embark on your own personal journey to yourself.
